Spurs Fans called to action in another planned protest against Daniel Levy & ENIC

Spurs fans have been summoned to rally again for a second time this season in what plans to be the biggest protest against the owners in the club’s history.

A social media account on X which goes by the name of ‘Change for Tottenham‘ has released a tweet revealing they are working to organise another protest on April 6th. For the home game VS Southampton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Their next big event.

Change For Tottenham had also posted another tweet, asking fans: ‘If you could change one thing about Tottenham, what would it be?’. As you’d expect, a lot of the replies wanted the owners and hierarchy to change. One fan even suggested the sausage rolls in the stadium were bang average and they had preferred the old ones!

CFT suggested that it is not just Daniel Levy fans should be focusing on, but instead the entire board.

“Donna Cullen, as Spurs Executive Director & Fan Liaison, plays a key role in club decisions & fan engagement. While Levy gets the headlines, Cullen has significant influence behind the scenes. If we’re discussing accountability at Spurs, we shouldn’t just focus on Levy.”

Many fan social media pages have been trying to work with the club upon improving the entire stadium atmosphere in general. Return of the Shelf on X worked with the club on this alongside Spurs Song Sheet. It was later decided that ROTS and SSS had pulled out from working with the club. This was due to the club’s interests being elsewhere and they had felt they were not being listened too enough, reflecting on the club’s relationship with the real fans.

Change for Tottenham have written a manifesto and their reasonings behind being against the board.

Tension between fans and ownership

There has been tension between fans and the Ownership at Tottenham Hotspur for quite some time now. The relationship first became stale after Daniel Levy sacked Mauricio Pochettino on 19 November 2019. Pochettino was sacked by Tottenham Hotspur with the side 14th in the Premier League standings. Chairman Daniel Levy cited the “extremely disappointing” domestic results as the reason behind the dismissal. Pochettino was succeeded by José Mourinho.

Many fans had criticised Daniel Levy for sacking Pochettino, feeling that the manager had not been backed via funding in the transfer markets. The summer window in 2018, Tottenham fans made their voices heard, feeling that Tottenham had not progressed in the transfer window enough. Not a penny was spent. Daniel Levy had put this down to the new stadium renovations being the main culprit for this.

The Superleague Calamity

In April 2021, The European Super League was announced. This was met with heavy opposition from various groups: fans, players, managers and football clubs. Tottenham had announced their participation as a FOUNDING club. This divided a lot of the Spurs Fans, with a select few being for it, and majority against. Many were outraged at Daniel Levy for even considering being apart of a project like this, accusing him of interrupting the integrity of Football. However, after receiving backlash, Tottenham had announced along with other clubs, that they are pulling out of the Super League negotiations.

Shortly after withdrawing from the Super League, Daniel Levy sacked Jose Mourinho on the eve of a Carabao Cup Final clash vs Manchester City. After a poor run of form. However, it was not clear upon the reasoning of the sacking, with many believing that Levy and Jose had clashed around the Super League idea.

Spurs Fans were quick to judge Levy for this, and protests around the ground started emerging. Levy out chants were loud and clear. I didn’t blame them!. I mean, who sacks one of the most prolific trophy winning managers who is managing a trophy-starved club on the EVE of a cup final! Fans had every right to be upset. Inevitably, Spurs lost the Cup final against Manchester City. As you would have guessed it, the blame was pointed to Daniel Levy.

Win Now Managers?

As a last resort to try to win the Spurs Fans back, Daniel Levy turned to appointing win now managers. However, we got… Nuno Espírito Santo?. Do not get me wrong, Nuno was incredible for Wolves and I had adored the way he managed them. Never did I think he would be managing Tottenham Hotspur though.

As I Expected, Nuno lasted 4 months before the fans had seen enough. The tension between Levy and the fans had now become gigantic, we had no ambition, no clear direction & we were slowly sinking back down to rock bottom. You know the good thing about hitting rock bottom? The only way is up.

Daniel Levy had summoned Prolific manager Antonio Conte in November 2021. Fans were made up with this appointment, it had finally felt like the club was getting somewhere. Tottenham were thriving under Conte, their new playing style was quickly winning fans over. Producing some of the most incredible matches in the club’s history. However after another poor run of form, just a year and a half later, Conte was sacked for openly criticizing the players and ownership in a press conference after a 3-3 draw to southampton. Branding the players as ‘Selfish’ and ‘They could not play for something important’ also stating that ‘The Owners always settle for this mediocrity’ .

Ticket Price Hikes & Scrapping senior concessions

In March, Spurs announced that no new senior concession tickets would be available from the 2025-26 season, while existing senior season ticket holders will see their 50 per cent discount drop by five per cent a year to 25 per cent in 2029-30.

Speaking at Tottenham’s fan forum on Monday night, Levy insisted the decision to phase out senior tickets remained under review but suggested Spurs could not afford to keep subsisting older supporters. Spurs also announced a six per cent rise in season ticket prices across the board in March. This sparked major concern with Spurs Fans who were quick to form a protest the week after at the home game holding up a banner ‘Save our Seniors’.

Over 1,000 fans gathered outside the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on 16th February to protest against the clubs ownership before the game vs Manchester United. A Yellow banner can be seen being held up in the street with hundreds of fans lined up behind making their voices heard. The banner was taken into the stadium and also shown on display. This was also organised by Change for Tottenham. Meaning the next one they have planned for the 6th April is set to be even bigger.
